The battery would drain empty overnight! I tried Advanced Task Killer Free, but that needs manual activation. I now have Automatic Task Killer running including the *Kill background processes* option. It can be set to kill individual tasks or all tasks automatically. It seems to be solving the problem together with Point 7) above set to *Never when plugged in*. The Desire now doesn't get warm on its own as before. Android 2.2 is supposed to have search facility but not different view option launch date seems to differ each time . Battery pretty good approx 18 hrs medium usage.
